Nettle "urtica dioica" - tincture

The healing power of nettle is incredibly diverse!

Some Applications:

  • Anti-inflammatory: Nettle extracts can inhibit inflammatory processes, which may help alleviate joint discomfort.
  • Antioxidant: Nettle contains numerous secondary plant compounds that neutralize free radicals and provide outstanding cellular protection.
  • Supports urinary & kidney function / diuretic: Nettle promotes urine excretion.
  • Minerals & blood health: Due to its content of iron, vitamin C, and other minerals, nettle is traditionally used for iron deficiency or fatigue.
  • Joint and muscle support: In folk medicine, nettle is used for rheumatism, osteoarthritis, and muscle/joint complaints.

  • Vitamin C (very high content, especially in young leaves)

    → These substances are mainly found in the stinging hairs and cause the characteristic “sting.”

Usage

Internal: Take a few drops of the tincture in some water, juice, or directly under the tongue. For example: 3–7 drops, 3× daily. Recommendation: Start with 3 drops 3× daily and observe the effect. Then increase the dose if needed.

External: Apply diluted to affected skin areas or as part of applications for skin problems or joint complaints (see section “External Use”).

External Use
For external use, fresh nettle leaves are best. A nettle tincture is also possible and can be useful – with proper dilution:

Skin problems / Eczema: Diluted tincture can be applied locally to areas with mild inflammation or irritation.

Joint / Muscle Applications: As part of compresses or rubs for joint or muscle issues – mix a few drops of tincture with a carrier oil and gently massage onto the affected area.
Dilution recommendation: Since tincture is alcohol-based, dilution with water or a mild carrier oil is recommended – always check skin compatibility first (patch test).


📌 Please Note:

  • The tincture contains ~37% alcohol.
  • Nettle promotes more frequent urination, which is important for the elimination of waste substances. Therefore, always drink plenty of water or tea alongside the tincture to support this process.

  • Diuretic / urine-promoting effect: For kidney diseases or while taking medications affecting the kidneys or urine excretion, consult the treating physician beforehand.

  • Anyone allergic to nettle or related plant families should exercise caution.

  • Skin test: For external use, test a small area first.

This herbal remedy supports body functions, helps with the mentioned conditions, and can be used as a complementary food supplement.


The Wisdom of Nettle 🌿

It is said that a young student once went to his old herbal master and complained:
“All plants are friendly to me – only the nettle stings and burns. Why is it so hostile?”

The master smiled and led him to a large, strong nettle by the roadside.
“Brush quickly over it with a hasty swipe,” he said.

The student did so – and of course, his fingers burned immediately.

Then the master said:
“Now try again. But this time slowly, consciously, and with a steady hand.”

The boy gently placed his hand on the leaf, stroked it without haste – and nothing happened. No burning, no pain.

The master explained:
“The nettle teaches us: Those who go through life hastily, carelessly, and impatiently get hurt. But those who act mindfully, gently, and consciously unlock even the fiercest healing power.”

The student looked at the plant and noticed for the first time its strength, its scent, its vitality.

The master concluded:
“Many people avoid the nettle because they only look at it from a distance. But those who dare to truly engage with it recognize one of the most powerful healing plants there is.”
