Effects
Traditionally, horehound is used to support:
Coughs and congested airways
Promotion of expectoration
Stimulation of digestion and bile flow

It acts as an expectorant, bitter tonic, and invigorator.
Constituents
Horehound contains primarily:
Bitter compounds (especially marrubiin)
Flavonoids
Tannins
Essential oils (in small amounts)
Mucilage
Preparation
1–2 teaspoons of dried horehound herb
Pour over about 250 ml hot (not boiling) water
Steep 5–10 minutes, then strain
Usage
1–2 cups daily, preferably before meals
The tea is very bitter – sweeten lightly with honey if desired
