Mallow – Gentle. Protective. Soothing. Calming.

What makes mallow so special?

Even in antiquity, mallow was regarded as
“the plant of gentleness,” a cooling herb, a protective “sheathing remedy,” and a helper in cases of inner heat and restlessness.

The Greeks called it malaké, meaning “soft” – from this the name mallow developed.

In folk belief it was said:
“Mallow smooths what is agitated” – physically as well as emotionally.

Mallow is one of the gentlest medicinal plants of all.
Its nature is soft, cooling, and enveloping – like a plant-based protective mantle.

Its power comes primarily from the mucilage, which it contains in abundance.
That is why it is often called “the friendly mallow.”

Gentle for young children

Mallow is gentle for toddlers:
it is one of the few herbs suitable even for very young children
(e.g. for mild cough or an irritated throat).

Constituents

The most important components of mallow are:

  • Mucilage – the most important soothing component

  • Flavonoids – anti-inflammatory

  • Anthocyanins – give the flowers their violet-blue color

  • Tannins – mildly astringent

  • small amounts of essential oils

This composition makes mallow an ideal plant for sensitive people.

Mallow tincture

(Made from Malva sylvestris)

Mallow tincture is primarily soothing and protective, thanks to its high content of mucilage.
The mucilage forms a gentle film over mucous membranes and skin.

Application & dosage (general)

Internal use:
10–20 drops, 2–3 times daily,
best taken in a little water,
ideally between meals so the mucilage can work effectively.

For throat & mouth:
Keep the drops in the mouth for a while or
gargle with lukewarm water.

External use:
Strongly diluted (e.g. 1:5 with water)
for compresses or washes on irritated skin.

📌Please note:

  • The tincture contains approx. 37% alcohol.
  • Mallow is very well tolerated, even by sensitive individuals.
  • Mucilage can delay the absorption of other medications – therefore keep a 1–2 hour interval.
  • For children, pregnancy, or breastfeeding, please adjust the dosage individually (or clarify briefly).
  • Mallow is considered one of the safest medicinal plants overall.
  • Only in cases of very strong medication use should mallow not be taken at the same time, as the mucilage may delay absorption – that is all.
  • It is one of those medicinal plants that almost any good herbal household would recommend as a first helper.

📌Our recommendation is:

Above all, to eat a healthy diet, engage in sports, enjoy daily movement outdoors in nature, and drink clean water. However, in today’s world it is often not possible to follow all of these essential principles of life regularly or long-term. In addition, stress levels are widely high, and exposure to environmental factors, chemicals, toxins, pesticides, and much more has increased.
An essence from the wonderful natural world can not only provide us with valuable vitamins, minerals, and feelings of happiness: when used correctly, it offers remarkably efficient, side-effect free support, both preventively and reactively. ✔️
